Tree crown recovering from damage sustained during cyclones Larry in March 2006, and Yasi in February 2011. Most of the large trees here were planted by Jose Paronella in the 1930s with the help of the Forestry Department. The Kauri ( Agathis robusta form palmerstonii) avenue is very spectacular. There are a few remnants of the original forest, including this Penda, as this block was cleared for farming early on and bought by Jose to create his 'Spanish Dream'. Unfortunately the area has suffered floods and cyclones but despite this Paronella is a magical place. |
